Publication Ethics
Jurnal Sifo Mikroskil (JSM) is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. The journal aims to ensure that all published articles contribute to the advancement of knowledge through original, reliable, and academically responsible research.
This publication ethics statement outlines the ethical principles and responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the publication process. All parties are expected to uphold these principles to ensure the quality, credibility, and integrity of scholarly publications.
1. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
1.1. Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate, objective, and comprehensive account of their research. Manuscripts should provide sufficient information about the research objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions to enable readers to understand and evaluate the findings.
Research findings must be reported honestly, without fabrication, falsification, selective manipulation, or intentional misrepresentation of data. Authors must ensure that their manuscripts comply with the journal's submission guidelines and relevant academic standards.
1.2. Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their submitted manuscripts are original works and appropriately acknowledge all sources of information, ideas, data, and materials obtained from other publications.
Plagiarism in any form, including direct copying, improper paraphrasing, self-plagiarism, and the unattributed use of another person's ideas or findings, is considered unethical and unacceptable.
JSM conducts similarity screening using Turnitin as part of its initial editorial assessment. Manuscripts must comply with the journal's similarity threshold of 20% or lower. However, compliance with the similarity threshold does not automatically guarantee that a manuscript is free from plagiarism.
The editorial team reserves the right to reject manuscripts containing plagiarism or other violations of academic integrity.
1.3. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Manuscripts submitted to JSM must not have been previously published in another journal, conference proceeding, or other scholarly publication.
Substantial duplication of previously published research without appropriate disclosure, citation, or justification is considered unethical publication practice.
Authors are responsible for informing the editor of any significant overlap between the submitted manuscript and their previously published work.
1.4. Authorship and Contributorship
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant intellectual contributions to the research, including its conception, design, execution, analysis, interpretation, or preparation of the manuscript.
All listed authors must have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible contributors are appropriately recognized and that individuals who do not qualify for authorship are not included as authors.
Contributors who provided assistance but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately.
Any proposed changes to authorship after submission must be supported by a reasonable explanation and agreement among all affected authors, subject to editorial approval.
1.5. Acknowledgement of Sources
Authors must appropriately cite and acknowledge all relevant sources that have influenced their research.
Proper references must be provided for previously published findings, methodologies, datasets, and other scholarly materials used in the manuscript.
Authors should avoid misleading citations, unnecessary references, and citation practices intended primarily to manipulate citation metrics.
1.6. Data Integrity and Research Ethics
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the data presented in their manuscripts.
Research data must not be fabricated, falsified, or inappropriately manipulated. Authors should retain relevant research records and supporting data and be prepared to provide clarification or supporting evidence when reasonably requested by the editorial team, subject to applicable confidentiality, privacy, and legal restrictions.
Research involving human participants, personal information, or sensitive data must comply with applicable ethical requirements and regulations. Where necessary, authors must obtain appropriate ethical approval and informed consent.
1.7. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.
All relevant sources of research funding and financial support should be acknowledged.
The absence of a conflict of interest should also be stated when applicable.
1.8. Fundamental Errors in Published Works
When authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published articles, they must promptly notify the editorial team and cooperate in determining appropriate corrective action.
Depending on the nature and severity of the issue, corrective actions may include publishing a correction, clarification, or retraction in accordance with the journal's policies.
2. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
2.1. Publication Decisions
Editors are responsible for evaluating submitted manuscripts and making publication decisions based on academic merit, originality, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, methodological quality, and recommendations from qualified reviewers.
JSM implements a double-blind peer review process involving at least two reviewers with relevant expertise.
The final editorial decision must be based on an impartial evaluation of the manuscript and must not be influenced by personal interests or inappropriate external pressure.
2.2. Fairness and Editorial Independence
Editors must evaluate manuscripts fairly and objectively without discrimination based on an author's gender, nationality, ethnicity, religious beliefs, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics unrelated to the academic quality of the work.
Editorial decisions must remain independent of commercial, institutional, political, or personal considerations.
2.3. Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all information associated with the editorial and peer review processes.
Information concerning a manuscript must not be disclosed to unauthorized parties.
Unpublished materials obtained through manuscript submissions must not be used for personal research or other purposes without the authors' explicit permission.
2.4. Conflicts of Interest
Editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could affect their impartiality in handling a manuscript.
When a conflict of interest exists, the editor should withdraw from handling the manuscript and arrange for another qualified editor to oversee the evaluation process.
2.5. Handling Ethical Concerns
Editors are responsible for responding appropriately to credible concerns or allegations involving research misconduct, plagiarism, authorship disputes, data manipulation, or other violations of publication ethics.
Suspected cases must be assessed fairly and confidentially, with the individuals concerned given an appropriate opportunity to provide explanations.
When necessary, editors may request supporting evidence, consult relevant experts, or contact the authors' institutions.
Editorial decisions and corrective actions should be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the identified issue.
3. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
3.1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Reviewers play an essential role in maintaining the scholarly quality and credibility of JSM publications.
Peer review assists editors in making informed publication decisions and provides authors with constructive recommendations to improve their manuscripts.
Reviewers are expected to assess submissions based on academic quality, originality, methodological soundness, clarity, and relevance to the journal's focus and scope.
3.2. Competence and Timeliness
Reviewers should accept review assignments only when they possess sufficient expertise to evaluate the manuscript.
Reviewers who are unable to complete an assessment within the requested period should promptly inform the editor.
If a reviewer considers the manuscript outside their area of competence, they should decline the assignment or communicate the limitation to the editorial team.
3.3. Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
Reviewers must not share, reproduce, distribute, or discuss manuscripts with unauthorized individuals.
Information or unpublished findings obtained through the review process must not be used for personal advantage or research purposes without appropriate authorization.
3.4. Objectivity and Constructive Feedback
Reviews must be conducted objectively, fairly, and professionally.
Reviewers should provide clear, evidence-based, and constructive comments to support their evaluations and recommendations.
Personal criticism of authors, discriminatory remarks, and unsupported judgments are unacceptable.
Reviewers should distinguish between essential revisions needed to address substantive weaknesses and optional suggestions intended to improve the manuscript.
3.5. Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published research that has not been appropriately cited when it is necessary to support or contextualize the submitted work.
Reviewers should also inform editors of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published or submitted works of which they are aware.
Reviewers must not request unnecessary citations to their own publications or other works solely to increase citation counts.
3.6. Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest arising from personal, professional, institutional, financial, or competitive relationships related to the authors or the research.
Reviewers should decline assignments when such conflicts could compromise the independence or objectivity of their evaluations.
3.7. Reporting Suspected Misconduct
Reviewers who identify suspected plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, or other ethical concerns must inform the editor confidentially.
Reviewers should provide relevant evidence or explanations where available and should not independently contact authors or undertake investigations without editorial authorization.
4. Allegations of Research and Publication Misconduct
4.1. Reporting Allegations
JSM takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously. Authors, reviewers, readers, and other concerned parties may report suspected misconduct to the editorial team through the journal's official communication channels.
Reports should include a clear description of the suspected misconduct and relevant supporting evidence whenever available.
4.2. Preliminary Assessment
The editorial team will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether the allegation requires further investigation.
Suspected misconduct may include plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, inappropriate authorship, peer review manipulation, and other violations of publication ethics.
4.3. Investigation and Clarification
When further investigation is necessary, the editorial team may request explanations and supporting documentation from the individuals concerned.
All parties involved will be given a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations. The editorial team may consult independent experts or relevant institutions when appropriate.
4.4. Editorial Decisions and Corrective Actions
Based on the available evidence, the editorial team will determine appropriate actions, which may include manuscript rejection, requests for correction, publication of an expression of concern, or article retraction.
Corrective actions will be determined according to the nature and severity of the identified misconduct.
4.5. Confidentiality and Fairness
JSM is committed to handling allegations objectively, fairly, and confidentially.
Information related to suspected misconduct will be disclosed only to individuals or institutions whose involvement is necessary for the assessment or resolution of the case.
Individuals involved may submit relevant clarifications or appeals in accordance with the journal's Complaints and Appeals policy.
5. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern
JSM is committed to preserving the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.
When errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication, the editorial team will determine the appropriate response based on the nature, severity, and potential impact of the issue.
Corrections: A correction may be published when an error affects part of an article but does not invalidate its principal findings or conclusions.
Retractions: A retraction may be issued when there is sufficient evidence that an article contains unreliable findings, serious ethical violations, plagiarism, redundant publication, or other problems that undermine its scholarly integrity.
Expressions of Concern: An expression of concern may be issued when credible questions about a published article remain unresolved and the available evidence is insufficient to support a definitive editorial decision.
Retraction and correction notices should clearly identify the affected publication, explain the reasons for the action, and remain accessible to readers.
JSM is committed to handling corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern through a fair, transparent, and responsible editorial process to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
5.1. Procedures for Corrections and Retractions
Authors, reviewers, readers, and other concerned parties may report errors or concerns regarding published articles to the JSM editorial team through the journal's official communication channels.
Upon receiving a report, the editorial team will evaluate the available evidence and may request clarification or supporting documentation from the authors or other relevant parties.
When necessary, the editorial team may consult independent experts or relevant institutions to ensure a fair and objective assessment.
Based on the findings, JSM will determine whether a correction, retraction, expression of concern, or other appropriate editorial action is required.
5.2. Publication of Corrections and Retraction Notices
Corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern will be communicated transparently through the journal's official website.
Relevant notices will clearly identify the affected article, explain the reasons for the editorial action, and provide a link to the original publication.
Retracted articles will generally remain accessible as part of the scholarly record, with a clear indication of their retracted status, unless removal is necessary for legal, ethical, or other exceptional reasons.
JSM is committed to ensuring that all post-publication corrective actions are conducted fairly, transparently, and responsibly.
6. Complaints and Appeals
Authors, reviewers, and readers may submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions, peer review procedures, or suspected violations of publication ethics.
Complaints should be supported by relevant information or evidence and submitted to the journal's editorial team through its official communication channels.
The editorial team will assess complaints objectively and, when necessary, seek clarification from the individuals concerned.
Appeals against editorial decisions will be evaluated based on the information provided and the journal's editorial policies. Submission of an appeal does not automatically guarantee reconsideration or acceptance of a manuscript.
7. Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence
JSM recognizes that artificial intelligence tools may assist researchers in certain stages of research and manuscript preparation. However, their use must not compromise originality, accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, or academic accountability.
Authors remain fully responsible for all manuscript content, including any material generated or assisted by artificial intelligence tools.
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical implications of scholarly work.
Authors must appropriately disclose substantial uses of generative artificial intelligence in preparing or conducting the reported research, in accordance with the journal's applicable AI policy.
Editors and reviewers must protect the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts and must not disclose confidential manuscript content to external AI services without appropriate authorization.
8. Conflict of Interest Policy

All authors, editors, and reviewers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may influence, or be perceived to influence, their responsibilities and decisions.

Authors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, institutional, or other relationships that could potentially influence the research process, interpretation of findings, or presentation of results.
Potential conflicts of interest may include financial support, employment relationships, consultancy arrangements, personal relationships, or other competing interests.
Authors must provide a conflict of interest statement when submitting their manuscripts. If no conflicts exist, authors should declare that they have no conflicts of interest.
8.2. Conflicts of Interest for Editors
Editors must maintain impartiality and independence in all editorial decisions.
Editors who have potential conflicts of interest involving a manuscript, its authors, or affiliated institutions must disclose these conflicts and withdraw from handling the manuscript when their impartiality may be compromised.
In such cases, another qualified editor should be assigned to manage the editorial and peer review process.
8.3. Conflicts of Interest for Reviewers
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could affect their objectivity in evaluating a manuscript.
Reviewers should decline review assignments when personal, professional, financial, institutional, or competitive relationships may compromise their independent judgment.
Reviewers must not use confidential information obtained through the peer review process for personal or professional advantage.
8.4. Disclosure and Management
All disclosed conflicts of interest will be assessed by the editorial team to determine whether appropriate measures are necessary to maintain the integrity of the publication process.
Depending on the circumstances, such measures may include assigning another editor or reviewer, requesting additional disclosures, or taking other appropriate editorial actions.
Failure to disclose a significant conflict of interest may result in further editorial review and corrective action in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics policy.
JSM is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are based solely on academic merit, scientific quality, and ethical considerations, without inappropriate influence from competing interests.
9. Commitment to Publication Ethics
