Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Sifo Mikroskil (JSM) is committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in the attribution of authorship for all published scholarly articles.

Authorship should accurately reflect the intellectual contributions of individuals involved in the research and manuscript preparation process. All individuals listed as authors must meet the journal's authorship criteria and accept responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the published work.

This policy establishes the criteria for authorship, the responsibilities of authors and corresponding authors, the recognition of non-author contributors, and the procedures for managing authorship changes and disputes.

1. Authorship Eligibility

Individuals listed as authors of manuscripts submitted to JSM must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Intellectual Contribution: Making significant contributions to the conception or design of the research, acquisition of data, analysis, or interpretation of research findings.
  2. Manuscript Preparation and Critical Review: Participating in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing its intellectual content.
  3. Final Approval: Reviewing and approving the final version of the manuscript before submission and publication.
  4. Accountability: Accepting responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical conduct of the research and cooperating in resolving questions or concerns regarding the published work.

All individuals who meet these criteria should be appropriately recognized as authors.

Individuals who do not meet the authorship criteria should not be included in the author list but may be acknowledged for their contributions.

2. Author Contributions

Each author must make a meaningful contribution to the research and manuscript preparation process.

Contributions may include:

  • Conceptualization: Developing the research ideas, objectives, and overall study design.
  • Methodology: Designing research methods, models, or experimental procedures.
  • Software: Developing, implementing, testing, or validating software and computational tools.
  • Validation: Verifying the reliability, accuracy, or reproducibility of research results.
  • Formal Analysis: Applying analytical, statistical, or computational techniques to research data.
  • Investigation: Conducting experiments, collecting data, or performing research activities.
  • Data Curation: Managing, organizing, and preparing research data for analysis.
  • Writing – Original Draft: Preparing the initial manuscript.
  • Writing – Review and Editing: Critically reviewing, revising, and improving the manuscript.
  • Visualization: Preparing research figures, diagrams, and visual representations.
  • Supervision: Providing intellectual guidance and oversight throughout the research process.
  • Project Administration: Coordinating and managing research activities.
  • Funding Acquisition: Obtaining financial support for the research.

Participation in one or more of these activities does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship. Each author must satisfy all the authorship eligibility criteria described in Section 1.

The editorial team may request clarification regarding individual author contributions when necessary.

3. Author Order

The order of authors must be determined through mutual agreement among all authors before manuscript submission.

The author order should reasonably reflect the contributions and responsibilities of individuals involved in the research.

The first author is generally the individual who has made a leading contribution to the research and manuscript preparation. Other authors should be listed according to the agreement reached by the author group.

All authors must approve the agreed authorship order before submission.

The editorial team does not determine the order of authors but reserves the right to request clarification when concerns regarding authorship arise.

4. Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the JSM editorial team throughout the submission, peer review, and publication processes.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
  • Obtaining approval from all authors before manuscript submission.
  • Ensuring that author names, affiliations, email addresses, and authorship order are accurately entered into the journal's submission system.
  • Managing communication with the editorial team regarding manuscript revisions and publication decisions.
  • Coordinating responses to reviewer comments and editorial requests.
  • Ensuring that the final manuscript has been reviewed and approved by all authors.
  • Providing relevant information regarding author contributions, research ethics, conflicts of interest, and funding acknowledgments when requested.
  • Responding to post-publication inquiries related to the accuracy or integrity of the published article.

The corresponding author must remain available for communication throughout the editorial process and, when necessary, after publication.

5. Non-Author Contributors and Acknowledgments

Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet the authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section when appropriate.

Such contributions may include:

  • Providing general administrative or technical assistance.
  • Offering language editing, proofreading, or manuscript formatting support.
  • Providing access to research facilities, equipment, or other resources.
  • Assisting with routine data collection or research administration.
  • Providing financial support without substantial intellectual involvement.
  • Offering general supervision without meeting the full authorship criteria.

Acknowledgments should accurately describe the contributions of individuals or organizations involved in supporting the research.

Authors should obtain permission from individuals before identifying them in the Acknowledgments section.

6. Changes in Authorship

Any changes to authorship after manuscript submission, including the addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors, must be clearly justified and approved by all affected authors.

Requests for authorship changes must be submitted by the corresponding author to the JSM editorial team.

The request should include:

  • A clear explanation of the proposed authorship change.
  • The reason for adding, removing, or rearranging authors.
  • Confirmation of agreement from all existing authors and any individuals being added or removed.
  • Updated authorship information and contributions, when applicable.

The editorial team will evaluate the request and may ask for additional clarification or supporting documentation before approving any changes.

Authorship changes requested after manuscript acceptance or publication will be subject to further editorial review and may require additional justification.

Changes to published authorship information will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and correction policies.

7. Authorship Misconduct

JSM does not tolerate inappropriate or unethical authorship practices.

Examples of authorship misconduct include:

  • Gift Authorship: Including individuals as authors who have not made sufficient intellectual contributions to the research.
  • Guest Authorship: Adding individuals primarily because of their reputation, position, or institutional influence rather than their actual research contributions.
  • Ghost Authorship: Omitting individuals who have made substantial contributions and qualify for authorship.
  • Unauthorized Authorship: Including individuals as authors without their knowledge or consent.
  • Authorship Misrepresentation: Providing inaccurate or misleading information regarding individual contributions.
  • Authorship Manipulation: Adding, removing, or rearranging authors for inappropriate purposes without the agreement of the individuals concerned.

When suspected authorship misconduct is identified, the editorial team may request clarification or supporting documentation from the authors.

Depending on the nature and severity of the issue, the editorial team may take appropriate action, including requesting corrections, suspending manuscript evaluation, rejecting the manuscript, or addressing the matter through post-publication corrective procedures.

8. Authorship Disputes

Authorship disputes should preferably be resolved among the authors through transparent and constructive communication before manuscript submission.

If a dispute arises during the editorial process, the corresponding author must notify the editorial team and provide relevant information regarding the issue.

The editorial team may suspend the manuscript evaluation or publication process until the dispute has been adequately resolved.

When necessary, the matter may be referred to the authors' affiliated institutions for further clarification or investigation.

JSM does not independently determine individual ownership of intellectual contributions but may require documented agreement among the authors before proceeding with publication.

9. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and AI-assisted technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JSM.

Authorship requires intellectual contribution, accountability, and responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of scholarly work, which cannot be assigned to AI systems.

Authors who use AI-assisted technologies during research or manuscript preparation remain fully responsible for reviewing, verifying, and validating all AI-generated or AI-assisted content.

Substantial use of Generative AI must be disclosed in accordance with the journal's Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy.

AI tools must not be used to conceal the actual contributions of individuals involved in the research or manuscript preparation process.

10. Author Declaration and Responsibility

By submitting a manuscript to JSM, the corresponding author confirms that:

  • All listed authors meet the journal's authorship eligibility criteria.
  • All authors have made appropriate intellectual contributions to the submitted work.
  • All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.
  • All authors have agreed to the authorship order and corresponding author designation.
  • All individuals who qualify for authorship have been appropriately included.
  • Relevant non-author contributors have been acknowledged when appropriate.
  • The manuscript complies with the journal's Publication Ethics and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy.
  • All authors accept responsibility for the integrity, originality, and accuracy of the submitted work.

JSM is committed to promoting responsible authorship practices and ensuring that scholarly contributions are recognized fairly, transparently, and accurately.
